St. Julie Billiart Parish
is most grateful and proud
of the creative and tireless
lay leadership
offered by
these and the many
devoted
parishioners
who volunteer
their time, talents
and treasures
in a variety of
Parish Ministries
which serve
our growing,
diverse and dynamic
South San Jose
community.
We
thank you!

After a thorough
study of
parishioner and community
needs, ideas,
and feelings,
conducted
as
part of the first
Parish Synod in 2004,
the parish community
chose nine parishioners
to serve on the
newly established
Pastoral Council.
In 2005,
it carefully studied
the Parish Synod report,
and
developed
the first
PARISH
MISSION STATEMENT
to help clearly
identify
what this parish
embraces, and
what St. Julie Billiart
parishioners
pledge to do as
followers
of
Christ Jesus
in the
Catholic
faith tradition.

The entire
Parish
Mission Statement
is now posted in both
English and Spanish

inside the entrance
of the church,
is printed
on the cover
of the weekly bulletin,
and is available
on the parish
website
in both languages.
This initial effort by
the first
Pastoral
Council
continues to
attract community interest,
excite,
and inspire both
parishioners and visitors
to make
St. Julie
Billiart Church
their "parish home"
where
All Are
Welcome!
Todos
Son Bievenidos!

Bob Rucker
2004 -
Member of the first Pastoral Council at St. Julie Billiart
Parish.
Served on the Council until 2006.
Began service as Parish Webmaster in 2006.
Bob was born and raised in
Chicago, Illinois,
is a Journalism Professor and
Radio & TV News Sequence Coordinator
in the School of
Journalism & Mass Communications
at San Jose State University.
In addition to teaching broadcast news writing, Bob
also lectures on issues facing media and society,
and has developed a research specialty
which focuses on diverse cultures and lifestyles in the
media.
Before his academic career, Bob
was an
award winning television journalist and worked as a
CNN News Correspondent in San Francisco, a
Weekend Anchor & Medical Reporter
for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, and a National News
Producer & Reporter for Newsweek Broadcasting in New York.
Although he was never inclined to get involved in
neighborhood
churches across the country, Bob says
St. Julie's inspired him in 1996 to get involved and be a
part of
this very unique and pro-active parish community.
Bob has enjoyed being a Lector and Eucharistic Minister,
participating in special services during Advent and Lent,
and helping organize the first Pan African Mass in 2005.
He feels honored to have been
chosen as a member
of the first Pastoral Council at St. Julie's,
and is looking forward to supporting and recognizing
all the cultures and life experiences
in this parish through the work of the new
St. Julie's Diversity Council.
Finally...Bob is always ready
to talk sports, especially about
his beloved Chicago teams...Da Bears, Cubs and White Sox...
He loves that this parish enjoys having fun together.
Mike Baumann
Served on
the Pastoral Council in 2005 and 2006.
Moved to Seattle, Washington.
I was raised
in a Catholic family on a dairy farm in central Michigan.
After a tour of duty in the Marines, I educated myself in
business matters
and recently retired from many years of retail financial
management.
During those years I married a wonderful woman who blessed
me with five sons.
I am today a
product of those experiences.
I adhere to the traditional catholic values I learned as a child and find
them to be
a solid anchor in this rapidly changing world. This solid
footing allows me
to reach out in support of a wide spectrum of ways in which
we can carry out
our call to be ambassadors of God. It also allows me to
challenge activities
that are inconsistent with the teachings of the church.
I became a
member of St. Julies when we relocated to San Jose
from the Seattle area in 1998. I joined the Pastoral
Council in 2004 and have
found the opportunity to participate in the evolution of a parish that is
driven by the needs of the community challenging yet
fulfilling.
To see the significant increase in lay leadership in the
parish assures
me that the Holy Spirit is alive and well in our parish
community.

St. Julie Billiart Parish
Pastoral Council
