Born in Mexico Juana Peña Olvera.
Relocated to the states at seventeen, after getting married
to Enrique.
Then I became Juanita P. Velasco.
By the grace of God, I decided to go back to school.
In 2000, I graduated from SCU with a B.S. in Sociology.
I’ve been blessed with a line of work I truly value and
enjoy,
a good natured husband, and three unique kids
(Jenny, Ricky and Nelly) plus one of a kind son in law (Gary
Geracci).
Spending time in the company of friends is a necessity for
me.
I’ve been a member of St. Julie Billiart since 1985.
My ministry has been with the Spanish speaking community
for the most part, though as a family, we’ve served in
social/fund raising events. In the beginning, I volunteered
in the rectory interpreting and translating.
After that, with a small group of great people, started a
catechetical program to meet the needs of the Hispanic
community.
Then, along with Enrique, coordinated for three years, a
newly formed
Hispanic youth group. I’ve also have been involved in
ministering to the sick, and hospitality.
Currently, I’m Mass Coordinator for the 1:00 PM (Spanish)
mass for which,
along with many others, worked very hard to maintain.
I accepted the call because deep in my heart I believe
this is God’s design. That is, to model a church that is
guided by God’s people, because
WE are the Church!
